Honorary Chair Announced, Speaker of the House Chris Benge

Oklahoma Center for Nonprofits Announces Honorary Chair for Oklahoma Nonprofit Excellence Awards -

The Oklahoma Center for Nonprofits announced today that Speaker of the House Chris Benge will serve as Honorary Chair of the second annual Oklahoma Nonprofit Excellence (ONE) Awards. Nonprofits, funders, and volunteers from across the state will gather once again to honor excellence in the nonprofit sector. The gala will be held on April 25, 2009, at the Renaissance Hotel in Tulsa. With cocktails, a seated dinner, special awards ceremony, video presentation highlighting the winning nonprofit organizations, and a noted master of ceremonies, the Center will bring together the best nonprofits in the state to honor them for their excellence and inspiration to other nonprofits who strive for the same outstanding performance.
The significance of this event is only magnified in the midst of such tough economic times. In a day when the need is continually growing and the funds to fulfill that need seem to be fading, the Oklahoma Nonprofit Excellence (ONE) Awards are a shining beacon of hope for many fighting organizations in our state. Not only does this event provide visibility and recognition to the finalist organizations, monetary awards are also a part of the evening. A total of $160,000 will be given out on April 25, with each finalist receiving $5,000, each category winner receiving $7,500, and the overall winner being awarded $10,000.
The collaboration of community leaders from across the state is responsible for making this event such an anticipated one.
“It is an extraordinary privilege to have Speaker Benge serve as our honorary chair. His dedication and influence across our state qualifies him in a unique way,” said Joe Moran, ONE Awards Event Chairman.
The parallel between the nature of this event and the priority of civic involvement for Speaker Benge brings an even stronger connection for the newly appointed honorary chair. The Oklahoma Nonprofit Excellence (ONE) Awards falls in line with the overall
mission of The Oklahoma Center for Nonprofits – to build better communities through
effective nonprofits. Speaker Benge is a native Tulsan and dedicated Oklahoman through and through and continues to challenge himself and his peers in the pursuance of greater communities statewide.
