2009 Finalists Announced for ONE Awards

27 Nonprofits Named Finalists for Oklahoma Nonprofit Excellence (ONE) Awards -
The Oklahoma Center for Nonprofits announced today the names of the top three finalists in nine categories for the 2009 Oklahoma Nonprofit Excellence (ONE) Awards. The categories included: Arts & Humanities, Community, Community Health Services, Education, Health Services, Self-Sufficiency, Seniors, Sports & Recreation, and Youth Development.
The event will take place on April 25, 2009, at the Renaissance Hotel in Tulsa. With cocktails, a seated dinner, special awards ceremony and a video presentation highlighting the winning nonprofit organizations, the Center will honor these outstanding nonprofits for their excellence and inspiration to other nonprofits who strive for the same outstanding performance.
Jerry Dickman, chairman of the ONE Awards Selection Commission, said that “because of the outstanding quality seen in so many Oklahoma nonprofits, the determination of the finalists was a very difficult process for the Commission”. However, he said that each of the finalists for the second annual ONE Awards is an outstanding example of nonprofit excellence in enhancing the quality of life in the community it serves.”

The winners in each of the nine categories will receive $7,500 and two finalists in each of the nine categories will receive $5,000. One of the nine categories winners will be selected as the overall winner and will receive $10,000 for their organization. A total of $160,000 will be given to outstanding ONE Award winners and finalists.
A total of 93 organizations were nominated for this year’s awards and the 27 finalists were selected by the ONE Awards Selection Commission as one of the three best among all similar nonprofits worthy of receiving this statewide acknowledgement of excellence in the nonprofit community.
The Selection Commissioners are chaired by Jerry Dickman of the Chapman Foundations of Tulsa. Other commissioners include Michael Cawley, Ardmore; Nance Diamond, Shawnee; Frederick Drummond, Pawhuska; Ken Fergeson, Altus; Hank Harbaugh, Tulsa; Phil Lakin, Tulsa; Frank Merrick, Oklahoma City; Polly Nichols, Oklahoma City; Rev. George Young, Oklahoma City; and Stanton Young, Oklahoma City.
